You will need:
- Pattern material, such as brown craft paper, plastic, etc.
- Marking pen
- Straight edge
- Scissors
- Heavy packing or duct tape
To keep things simple, you may want to order a template kit for $15.00 (includes instructions, order form, pattern material, marker, requested color samples, & return mailing label). $15.00 will be refunded at time of purchase of AquaMats®. Contact us for an AquaMat® template.
You may also choose to use your existing carpet as an AquaMat® template as long as it is in acceptable condition and fits exactly as you want.
1. Draw a pattern
Lay out the pattern material along the floor of the boat. Draw around pedestal seats, stationary seats, tables and anything else that you want to carpet around. Be sure to leave 1/2" from boat sides to allow for drainage. Mark slits from pattern edge for any cutouts. If the pattern material tears or is too short, simply tape on additional material. When you have finished, make sure the template lies flat in the area to be carpeted with no bubbles or wrinkles. You may also pattern from your existing carpet.
Note: Slits are required for most inside cutouts. Snaps are not required but can be installed by your local dealer or trim/upholstery shop if desired.
2. Cut pattern
Remove the template from the boat and cut along the edges you have drawn. Re-install the template and check for fit. Take your time to be sure the final template lies flat and fits around all obstructions. The AquaMat® will be made exactly to your template so be sure the fit is acceptable.
3. Mark pattern
Mark the template (and any other pieces) with the following information:
- Your name and phone number
- Arrow showing forward direction to bow
- Write "top" on the side facing up
- The date
Mail pattern
To avoid wrinkles, roll the template, do not fold. It is preferable to send in a round shipping container.
